The Colliers International – Ann Arbor office is led by the veteran broker, Jim Chaconas. For his work in 2019, Jim was recently awarded Top Broker for Colliers’ SE Michigan region, which includes the city of Detroit, and made the Top Retail Sale in his sale of the Fingerle Lumber property to the University of Michigan.

Raised in Ann Arbor with beginnings in retail distribution, Jim is dedicated to the area’s business real estate, and community. Today his network is unmatched. With over 30 years in the industry, Jim has become the leading agent in commercial transactions – leases, developments, business placements, purchases, and more – in Washtenaw County. To date, Jim and his team are responsible for nearly 70% of all commercial real estate deals in Washtenaw County.

When Jim joined Colliers International over a decade ago, he combined his expertise and knowledge of the local market with the global reach of Colliers. Jim’s success is derived from his extensive background and knowledge, along with his disciplined work ethic.

Jim lead the redevelopment of the Westgate Shopping Center, The Courtyard Shops retail strip, the former Borders world headquarters, and rebuilt the original Handicraft building at Liberty and Division Streets. In late 2018 / early 2019, he executed one of the largest real estate deals with the University of Michigan in their purchase of Fingerle Lumber.

In addition, Jim has utilized and made contributions to professional organizations such as Certified Commercial Investment Membership (CCIM), the largest international network of commercial agents, and is recognized as the leading expert in commercial investment real estate.

Jim continues to assist the City of Ann Arbor on various land and development issues and has consulted with Ann Arbor Fair Housing on site selection and land acquisition.
